I have worked with clay for 15 years, exploring its potential through a range of different sculptural forms. After many studio seasons, I found myself drawn to the endless possibilities of architectural tile art. The organic feel of handmade porcelain tiles, as well as their durability and subtle glaze palette, make them a uniquely expressive material. I also became interested in the collaborative process of custom design, in which my art facilitates a client’s aesthetic vision for their space.

Each project is an unrepeatable event, a permanent art piece integrating the owner’s taste, my design, and the natural responses of the glaze to high kiln temperatures. Because installing the tiles is itself a sculptural act, I have acquired training and experience in the craft of tile setting.

Bowls, human figures and various abstract forms satisfy my occasional need to make something I can hold in my hand.

My studio is on Waldron Island, in the San Juan Islands, so I generally work in western Washington, extending south to include Portland.
